About
The Dame reveals herself gradually. She is not a home that announces her presence all at once, but one that unfolds with ease, rewarding those who take the time to notice.

Set along a quiet, tree-lined street in Fitzroy North, the newly renovated cottage carries an assured calm. There is nothing performative about her charm. Instead, she opens the door and welcomes you into a space that feels immediately familiar, a home that seems to meet you where you are and invite you to stay a while. …read more

Inside, the pace softens. Light drifts across timber floors and filters gently through curtains that flutter with the breezes of the day. A palette of soft creams, muted greens and dusky pink settles the space, chosen not for drama but for comfort. Every element has been selected with intention, forming rooms that feel intimate rather than styled. Chairs invite long conversations, objects carry quiet stories, and the home wears her history with grace.

The living spaces feel serene and grounded, offering a sense of reassurance that encourages you to truly settle in. The Dame naturally draws guests who appreciate subtlety: couples seeking a thoughtful city escape, professionals craving sanctuary, creatives in search of inspiration, and friends who value great design and good food shared slowly.

Each bedroom carries its own distinct calm. One is wrapped in muted olive tones, with grid-textured linen walls and custom timber joinery whose swirling grain brings warmth and character. The second bedroom leans into timeless comfort, anchored by its original fireplace, vintage furnishings and a delicate chandelier that softens the room.

The main bathroom is shaped by gentle curves and warm stone. A sculpted marble vanity sits beneath a tall mirror; its veining echoed in the arched shower wall beyond. Nearby, a deep bath waits quietly for slow, restorative moments.

In the kitchen, nostalgia is softened by blue hand painted cabinetry, cement tiles and natural stone surfaces with rich depth. At its heart stands a Lacanche range, bringing understated French refinement and inviting relaxed, in-house cooking. Meals can be enjoyed indoors or beneath the looping vines of the pergola, where sage, rosemary, and thyme peek through the garden beds. For alfresco dining, an outdoor kitchen awaits, ready for long summer evenings.

Days at The Dame begins slowly. Perhaps with a walk to Wild Things for coffee or something freshly baked from Loafer Bread, sunlight filtering through the canopy as the day unfolds. And yet, returning home always feels like a small retreat, the world softening once more.

Just beyond the doorstep, the suburb opens in leafy layers. Edinburgh Gardens is a short wander away, offering meandering paths beneath tall eucalypts and open lawns for unhurried afternoons. As the epicentre of this lovely neighbourhood, it is one of the city’s most cherished parks and a prime picnic spot. You’ll find it alive with dog walkers, tennis players, skaters, and food-laden groups throughout the year.

Fitzroy North excels when it comes to all things lifestyle. The area is home to an impressive roster of restaurants and pubs all a short walk away. Whether it’s iconic bakeries with their perfect sourdough loaves, the famed deli section of Piedimonte’s supermarket, or stylish organic grocers and sophisticated wine bars – top-shelf quality reigns supreme.

The Capital City Trail traces the suburb’s edges, while the neighbourhood hums gently with cafés, conscious shops, and a quiet creative pulse.

Understated, assured and quietly unforgettable, The Dame is a hidden jewel for those who look beyond the obvious. Once discovered, leaving tends to be the hardest part.
